Putnam City School District

Continuing to achieve enviable milestones, both the students and the schools in Putnam City School District exemplify dedication to scholarship. Located in the city of Warr Acres, Oklahoma just northwest of Oklahoma City, Putnam City School District took its name from the Putnam City suburban development, one of several such communities that merged to become Warr Acres.

The developer of the area, Israel M. Putnam, also served as an Oklahoma state lawmaker. Just after the district’s formation in 1915, 1st through 8th grade students attended classes at the I. M. Putnam building located at 40th and Grove, the modern-day location of James L. Capps Middle School. What began with the consolidation of four schools represents today the fifth largest school district in the state of Oklahoma. With 27 excellent schools all committed to education and service to the children of Warr Acres, homes for sale in Putnam City School District become an easy choice over real estate located elsewhere.

Today, Putnam City School District serves more than 19,000 students all of whom benefit from the district’s motivation and superior management. The low teacher/student ratio of 1:16 ensures individual attention for every student, and the results speak for themselves. Every year since 1995, School Match has honored Putnam City School District with its “What Parents Want” award. Based on a number of criteria including test scores, class size, library/media resources and per-pupil expenditure, this award indicates excellence at a comprehensive level. Since the late 1980’s, district students honored as Academic All-Staters by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence numbered 111, the third highest in the state! Results like these most certainly factor into prospective homebuyers’ consideration of homes for sale in Putnam City School District.

These impressive honors represent the natural results of the district’s holistic approach to education which encompasses a number of special programs designed for student success. The Parents as Teachers Program, for instance, provides parents with the tools they need to give their children the best possible start and begin developing language and other academic skills at an early age. Services include development screenings, home visits, organization and referrals to play groups and a resource center complete with educational books for both parents and children with toys designed to foster early learning.

In addition to nutritious school lunches, the Child Nutrition Department supports the district’s school children in need with breakfast, after school and summer meal programs to ensure proper nutrition and development throughout the year. Special needs students benefit from a written Individualized Education Program (IEP) plan detailing their unique needs and learning styles. An estimated 12% of Putnam City School District children benefit from IEP’s. English Language Learners (ELL), defined as students in the process of learning English, benefit from special programs also with 10% of the district’s student population falling into this category.

The district’s three high schools – Putnam City, Putnam City North and Putnam City West – all offer student athletic programs in a large number of sports including basketball, football, soccer, baseball, softball, volleyball, cheerleading, tennis, golf, swimming, rowing, track, cross-country and wrestling. Overseen by the Putnam City Schools Athletic Council, each school excels in a number of sports. The Putnam City Pirates recently made local headlines with their basketball, football and baseball teams while the Putnam City North Panthers receive the most press on their wrestling and basketball teams. The Putnam City West Patriots make the news with their football and basketball teams, and the district’s five middle schools offer many, though not all, of the same sports programs.

No doubt, these schools give Warr Acres plenty of reasons to be proud and boost the value of homes for sale in Putnam City School District. The town of Warr Acres itself encompasses 3.5 square miles and connects to surrounding areas via both historic Route 66 and the Northwest 39th Expressway. In 2012, the estimated median home cost was $90,500, but sale prices vary greatly depending on location and amenities. The Northwest Chamber of Commerce identifies Warr Acres as a progressive city committed to going green and remaining a safe community, providing yet more reasons to choose Warr Acres real estate and the Putnam City School District.
