Deer Creek School District Information and Homes for Sale

Deer Creek School District Information and Homes for Sale

Ignoring borders and boundaries, the community of Deer Creek in Edmond and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma sits partially within three counties (Logan, Oklahoma and Canadian) which is why homes for sale in Deer Creek School District display a wide variety in both architecture and price variance. Named for the nearby meandering Deer Creek, the community and the school district ignore convention and strive for excellence in the way that makes the most sense to them, an approach that continues to serve them well as they restructure their grade levels and finish major construction projects to achieve meaningful upgrades to the schools.

Deer Creek School District began with 13 one-room schools in 1921. Some of the original school names including Prairie Bell, Rose Valley and Union Rhodes became inspiration for the modern elementary school names. However, none of the original locations remain part of the district today. They even demolished a school building funded and built through the Federal Works Project Administration during the Great Depression, although the entrance to the modern high school’s auditorium incorporates some of the original brick from that building’s facade.

Encompassing 72 square miles and serving close to 4,000 students today, Deer Creek School District appeals to parents in a number of ways. Most of those considering homes for sale in Deer Creek School District are probably aware that Prairie Vale Elementary, Deer Creek Middle and Deer Creek High schools all received Blue Ribbon School honors. Based on test results, Deer Creek School District received a rank 9 out of 10 on Oklahoma’s policy of intradistrict and interdistrict choice also factor into decision-making for those considering moving to the community. Under these policies, referred to as school choice, public school children may attend any age appropriate school in or out of their district which makes for competition and excellence at all schools.

Indeed, striving for excellence led Deer Creek School District to reevaluate the structure of the grades grouped together at the various schools. Now, with the completion of extensive construction projects, Deer Creek includes four elementary schools (Pre-K - 4th grade) one 5th and 6th Center, one middle school (7th and 8th grade) one Freshman Academy (9th grade only) and one high school (10th -12th grade). The district required several new buildings to accommodate the new plan and chose to move forward with the necessary construction to better their schools. Value-added programs like the available “Antler Care” for Pre-K through 4th grade students also factor into parents’ decisions to send their children to Deer Creek Schools.

Athletics programs for district schools continue to make a name for themselves with nine titles and championships since 2000 including two 4A and two 5A state championships for the boys’ cross country team, a 2006 4A state championship for the girls’ basketball team and a 2009 5A state championship for the girls’ soccer team. All Deer Creek schools use the “Antlers” mascot, and available team sports include football, softball, cross country, basketball, wrestling, baseball and track at the middle school level and all of these with the additions of volleyball, swimming, tennis, golf and soccer at the high school level.

Located mostly in Edmond, “The Crown Jewel of Oklahoma,” homes for sale in Deer Creek School District draw potential homebuyers for more than a few reasons. An artistic and vibrant city of about 85,000, Edmond, Oklahoma sits on the northwestern border of Oklahoma City making it an ideal choice for commuters. Edmond also boasts close to 30 city parks as well as Arcadia Lake and Lake Hiwassee which are both excellent locations for swimming, fishing, boating and more. In 2012, the median home price for Edmond came in at $164,300, but real estate here falls all over the spectrum for size, style and price. Of course, when you think of the investment in a home that’s part of the Deer Creek School District as an investment in a child’s quality education, the whole equation looks that much more attractive.
